Man Cashes in Over 10 Years of Nectar Points For A Sandwich Meal Deal
A man in his 40’s has cashed in his Nectar card points, collected since his early 30’s, at his local branch of Sainsbury’s.
43 year old Colin Smart told us: ” I do all my shopping in Sainsbury’s so I’ve been collecting Nectar points for about ten years. I thought I had a decent amount saved up, so I asked the woman behind the till to check how many I had. Turns out I had 8,369, and I thought, ‘hello, that’ll do nicely’. So she gave me this voucher and told me to queue up at customer services to find out what I could get with them.’
Looking bemused, he continued: ‘I queued for about half an hour as it was Saturday morning, and turns out I had enough for a sandwich and crisps meal deal. Well, I was 12p off but I paid that myself.’
The outcome has hit Colin hard, even affecting his general outlook on life.
‘The thing is, I’ve been promising my Missus a holiday for ages and I always thought I’d be able to cash in the Nectar points and have a week in Spain or something. I couldn’t have been more wrong.’ he said, looking dejected.
A Sainsbury’s spokesman told us that the supermarket chain prefer not to advertise how many points it takes to buy certain items, adding that it ‘adds to the excitement for customers’.
